I desperately need this recipe! It is my favorite food, but my best friend moved, so he can’t make it for me anymore. I’m not looking for a specific recipe, just one that tastes great!

This is a recipe my grandpa always used to make it for me:

Easy Carrot Cake

1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 cups grated carrots

Directions:

Combine sugar and vegetable oil in a mixing bowl, and beat in eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla. In another bowl, combine next 5 dry ingredients and mix. Add to wet ingredients and mix together. Stir in grated carrot. Pour into a greased 9″ X 13″ pan. Bake at 350°F for approximately 35 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean. Cool and ice cake.

Cream Cheese Frosting

INGREDIENTS
4 oz. cream cheese
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups icing sugar

Beat cream cheese, butter and vanilla together. Add sugar gradually, and beat until fluffy. Spread onto cake.

This is my first cake made from scratch. The vanilla buttercake itself is darker than it usually would be because I used organic whole cane sugar instead of processed white sugar. The taste is great, but the color isn’t the dreamy creamy yellow one might expect.

I also couldn’t resist the temptation to futz with the recipe just the tiniest bit (recipe is from the James Peterson "Baking" cookbook), and so added one crushed macadamia nut and a half stick of cinnamon, crushed. The flavor and aroma additions made the risk all worthwhile.

The chocolate utilized for the chocolate ganache is an 85% pure Bolivian kakao chocolate bar.

possibly rum( the liquor had an orange hue to it), it has chocolate and nuts (I think walnuts) throughout the cake. (the inside of the cake kind of looked like a pistachio cake to give you a better idea, not sure if it contained any though) It does not have any fruits, it is not a bundt cake, and it is not german "chocolate" cake. the frosting has the consistancy of whipped cream, with chocolate sprinkles all up the side of the cake, with a bit of the liquor poured on top. An acquiantance from germany made it from scratch, but unfortunetly will not give me the recipe. This recipe is authentic to germany, Any help would be good, The name and a recipe would be so helpful. Thank you.
Its not black forest cake, and although these sounds like great recipes, the first answer isn’t correct either. I hope I can find this recipe, I can’t find it anywhere! Please anyone who truly knows about german cuisine, your help is greatly appreciated.

Maybe it had hazenuts? The inside of the cake kinda resembled zucchinni bread. With little specks all inside, (not green of course) but brown specks with nut. It must have been some sort of yellow, or white cake, with chocolate specks and nuts inside..

My recipe says to cool the cake in the refrigetor….do I cool it in the pan?

I’m making a very tough to bake cake from scratch, the recipe calls for cooling the cake 2 hours in the refrigerator before frosting….Do I cool it still in the pan, or do I take it out of the pan to cool it?

Uh Oh! I frosted it and the frosting must have been too heavy. The top layer split right in two. Well, it’s just for my young son and I think he will eat it anyhow. Thanks to everyone for wonderful answers.

Frakenstein cake project?

So, I need some ideas. I have a project for Frakenstein due on Thursday. I decided since I can’t draw or do anything artistic, I’d make a cake.

So, I really do have two options. I can either make a cake that is the monster (Aka a square cake, iced with frosting, etc.)

or I could go with the whole "Beware of the monster you create" Motif and I was thinking of maybe making a white cake and making it look just plain out gross, or something like that. I don’t know. Any ideas of what I should do? Or if either of those sound good?

Now, I’m not asking you to do my project for me, I just need some ideas.

Also, I was wondering, is it normal for cake recipes to call for sour cream or mayonaise because I personally hate both of those things.

I am trying to make a cars cake for my son’s birthday, and I already know how I’m going to make it…but I know that all of the cutting and carving I want to do is just going to make a lot of crumbs that will show through the frosting. I do all of my kids’ birthday cakes every year, and try to make it more interesting and creative every year. I am not a baker, I am a creator. I know the basics of baking, but I’m really just beginning to learn the good stuff.
I’m using a cake mix…not making it from scratch. Is there some way that I can make the cake a little more dense, and not so fluffy? Or is there some other trick to make it come out looking smooth? Thanks to anyone who can give me some good advice.
I’m not going to special order the cake, because like I said…I make my kids cakes myself every year. I have made a tradition of seeing what else I can create.

Thank, but no those first two are not it. This cake has rum, and what I think tasted like pecans.
Actually i found a hazelnut german cake, and that might be it! thanks for your help!
