is there a way to make a boxed yellow cake more, i guess, stable?
i dont have time to bake a zillon layers of sponge cake and mix from scratch, a boxed yellow would be fine but they turn to shi-oops they crumb all up when you cut them.
i have looked everywhere online for tips, but they all say, PAGE EXPIRED, or INTERNET EXPLORER ERROR. so, thats really anoying and if you are a semihomeade kinda person and know how to save hours from my day, please HELP!

I can cook; I swear I can. I can make pies like mad and cookies of course, roasts, fish, smashed potatoes that I can’t keep on the table. I’ve even made perfect angelfood cake cupcakes with raspberry filling. But you give me a normal cake recipe and everything goes to hell. I watch tons of food network, it doesn’t help.
Please, this is driving me nuts. I make everything from scratch so using a cake mix is so… defeatist for me. Does anyone have a simple white or yellow cake recipe that I can maybe have some luck with? Nothing too involved and no chocolate (I’m allergic).
Again. I don’t want to use a cake mix. I want a recipe. I can make a box of cake mix, but I want to make the cake myself.

I got a recipe from the internet that I am going to follow. It is a yellow cake with chocolate frosting. It is for my husband and he loves yellow cake with chocolate frosting… I am thinking of doing a chocolate mousse filling, but I also wanted to use whipping cream as well…would filling the inside with chocolate mousse as well as whipped cream be good, or is that too much? Maybe I should dollop some whipped cream for people to use at their own discretion instead? Just wondering…

I need a "from scratch" recipe (not our handydandy cake mixes). Just a plain white cake, real butter is OK, lots of eggs ok, white sugar OK. But I would like a recipe that makes a nice cake.

Thank you Wedge: I neglected to say this could be a "yellow cake" would the only difference be the addition of the whole egg as opposed to just the whites?

Yes, of course, CURIOUS, but one would need to know an approximate number of whisks, or minutes of whisking, or an idea of what the batter should look like. Some recipes are more atuned to less "beating" Thanks for your helpful input.

My son’s 14th birthday is in 2 weeks and he has requested a seven layer cake. He says it is a yellow cake with chocolate icing in the layers. I am a beginner baker and have only mastered one strawberry cake from scratch and of course the Duncan Hines varieties. I would love helpful hints with the layer thing…..

I’ve been practicing baking and decorating cakes lately but I’d really like to bake one today but I’ve been using the boxed cake mix. So I thought this would be a good opportunity to try to bake one from scratch.
I’ve looked all over the internet for good cake recipes (I’d prefer a basic yellow cake right now) but of course people say different things so I don’t know which recipe I should go with.
So I need a simple recipe using the basic ingredients. (all purpose flour, eggs, butter, ect.)
So if anyone has a really delicious recipe (with ingredients and instructions) that you’d like to share, please send it. I’d really appreciate it. I’d really like to surprise my mom with a mouth watering cake when she gets home.

Also, whats the difference between using all purpose flour and cake flour when baking a cake/cupcakes?
Because I don’t have cake flour at the moment.
